    Sergio Ortega

Introducing Sergio Ortega. Sergio brings over 20 years of leadership in entertainment marketing, managing multicultural creative services and executing award-winning campaigns for top global brands. His deep connection with G.E.M.A., from jury member to Europe Advisory Council, highlights his strategic and creative excellence in the European market.
As Director, Europe Industry Relations & Executive Producer of Content, Sergio is dedicated to strengthening industry relations, fostering community connections, and advancing G.E.M.A.'s mission to celebrate and elevate creative achievements in entertainment marketing.

What Does G.E.M.A. Offer the Entertainment Marketing Community in Your Region?

G.E.M.A. offers an unparalleled platform for Europe's entertainment marketing community. As the region's only event of its kind, G.E.M.A. stands out by providing professionals with the opportunity to connect, exchange experiences, and gain insights into the latest industry trends and innovations. Beyond networking, G.E.M.A. celebrates and showcases outstanding work, recognizing the creativity and success of marketing campaigns. This combination of professional connection and celebration of excellence makes G.E.M.A. a pivotal event for anyone in entertainment marketing, offering both a rich learning experience and the chance to be part of a forward-thinking community.

What Challenges Are Entertainment Marketers Facing in Your Region Right Now?

Entertainment marketers in Europe are navigating a fragmented media landscape, oversaturation of players, and diverse regional preferences that complicate cohesive strategies. Changing viewer habits, such as the shift to on-demand and multi-device consumption, demand rapid adaptation. Economic instability from regional and global geopolitical crises leads to budget cuts and financial uncertainty, with layoffs and evolving roles in the job market. Integrating AI into workflows presents both opportunities and challenges as marketers adjust their processes and strategies.

Can You Describe a Campaign or Project That Influenced Your Approach to Entertainment Marketing?

Two campaigns stand out back in my creative memory: the iconic 1960s Volkswagen Beetle ads, known for their minimalist design and clever, self-deprecating copy, and the 2007 Cadbury Gorilla ad, featuring a drumming gorilla set to Phil Collins' "In the Air Tonight." The Beetle ads redefined automotive advertising with their focus on simplicity, honesty, and humor, making the Beetle a beloved cultural symbol. The Cadbury Gorilla ad, with its unexpected and humorous concept, captivated audiences and boosted sales by 7%, demonstrating the power of creativity and narrative in marketing. These campaigns reinforced the importance of innovative thinking and emotional connection, shaping my professional strategy and encouraging me to push creative boundaries for campaigns that resonate deeply and achieve tangible results.

What Strategies Do You Use to Keep Up with Innovation and Anticipate the Latest Trends in Entertainment Marketing?

To stay ahead, I engage in continuous learning through books, talks, and industry research, attend creativity and advertising festivals, network with peers, analyze consumer trends, monitor competitors, and experiment with new ideas.

What Are Your Latest Discoveries in Innovation or Trends?

In music, I'm fascinated by the Indian Hip Hop scene, which is starting to gain global attention, with artists like Hanumankind making waves. In film, I'm exploring Nollywood, Nigeria's film industry, which produces more movies annually than Hollywood and is nearly on par with Bollywood. In sports marketing, Real Madrid remains the world's most valuable and strongest football club brand-a case study worth analyzing. In Film there's still a lot to be seen through AI if used to push creative excellence
